Notes are signs by means of which music is fixed in writing. The
term is also used for the sound indicated by a note, and even for the
key of the piano which produces the sound. However, a clear distinction
between the terms tone and 
note is strongly recommended.
Briefly, one sees a note, and hears a tone.
